This historical romance revolves around plucky, spirited Elizabeth Cameron, an impoverished orphan in 18th century England who is drawn into a scandal by sexy rogue Ian Thornton. (True, it shares the list with the likes of Teen-age Mutant Ninja Turtles, but hitting the best-seller list is rare for a romance.) It has been on The New York Times best-selling paperback fiction list for eight weeks. I first read it in 1998 and it has sat firmly on my favorites shelf all this time.
